Who doesn't love to cook? After all, your evolve Bloomington apartment has a great kitchen that you should be using for more than brewing coffee and microwaving leftovers from Bub's Burgers. And when it comes to ingredients, well, 80% of Indiana is farmland (or woodland), so local farmers markets are a great, fresh alternative. Plus, you'll be helping out local growers. Now, if you're wondering, "Is there a farmers market near me?" the answer is yes. And here are three you should definitely check out.
Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market
The Bloomington Community Farmers' Market is just over a mile away, so it's a pretty easy walk if you're in the mood. Street parking is $1 an hour, but you can also catch Bloomington Transit Bus No. 1 on 17th and Dunn or Bus No. 6 on College Avenue and 17th. Once you arrive, you'll have your choice of dozens of local vendors selling fresh produce, meats, condiments, and even freshly baked bread and pastries. The atmosphere is friendly, fun, and packed with everything you'll need to make some killer meals.
Location: 401 N Morton St., Bloomington, IN
Hours: Every Saturday 8 AM to 1 PM May - October, and 9 AM to 1 PM in November
Bloomington Woolery Farmers’ Market
They should rename Bloomington Woolery Farmers' Market the Bloomington People's Market due to the sheer number of growers who work and shoppers who visit this local mainstay every Saturday. There's plenty of free parking, and while you can get there via Bus No. 2, it'll take about an hour. Bring your appetite along with your grocery bags, though. Beyond the fresh produce, meats, and condiments, these 40 vendors also sell a variety of fresh dishes prepared right there on the spot. Everything from authentic Mexican meals to wood fire-cooked bread is available for you to try. You may even discover a new recipe or two to whip up for dinner later that night!
Location: 2250 W Sunstone Drive, Bloomington, IN
Hours: Every Saturday 8 AM to 12 PM April - September, and October 9 AM to 12 PM
Bethel Lane Farm Stop
It doesn't get fresher than this. Bethel Lane Farm Stop is located about 6 miles northeast of home and is, well, on a farm. While not as large as the other two entries on this list, this small collection of local small-scale farmers sell seasonal produce grown yards away from where you'll be standing. The farm stop is self-serve and works on the honor system. Gotta love Indiana.
Location: 4741 E Bethel Lane, Bloomington, IN
Hours: Every Day April - October
